Our counters aren't the only thing in our kitchen to get the chalkboard paint treatment. I actually painted our fridge ages ago - and with the exception of the handle, it's held up amazingly! - but Hannah only recently took an interest in drawing on it (it helps that my mom bought her some over-sized sidewalk chalk). We hope to replace the fridge later this year (it's old and uses way too much energy!), but the paint has been a good way to transform an eyesore into something we don't mind living with - and it's more functional, too.
P.S. If you're thinking about doing something similar, I did rough up the surface of the fridge with sandpaper before painting, but I skipped the primer and no regrets there!
